About Cora Martin
Cora was born in 1963 in Dordrecht (Holland). Her parents were both artists and from a young age she was surrounded by art and developed a great interest in painting and drawing. Later, she moved to Amsterdam and took up private lessons with the highly regarded artist, Iris Lulof, and at the age of 22 was accepted at the Gerrit Rietveld School of Fine Arts and Design in Amsterdam.
In 1990 she moved to London where she continued to develop her art and started to exhibit in local exhibitions in south west London.
In 2003 Cora moved to Guildford (Surrey) where she currently lives with her husband and 2 children. She is a full exhibiting member of the Guildford Art Society, and her work is exhibited frequently at the Guildford House Gallery.
In addition to developing her own work Cora also teaches students of all ages and abilities on a regular basis. Classes are flexible, they can be small groups or one to one. Her younger students all attend local schools such as Boxgrove, Guildford High, St.Catherine’s, and George Abbott. She has also helped children to prepare work for entry into the Farnham University of Fine Arts.
The emphasis in the lessons is on developing a wide range of skills, building confidence in dexterity and developing a range of tools to facilitate methods of expression. The media used, can be anything from watercolours, acrylics, oil paints, soft pastels, oil pastels, charcoal, mixed media, the all important pencil and other drawing or painting materials.
